Montgomery Blair is part of the Downcounty Consortium (DCC). Students who reside within the DCC boundaries participate in the Choice process. Students and parents rank their preferred high schools for school assignment and are assigned to one of 5 high schools via lottery: Montgomery Blair, Albert Einstein, John F. Kennedy, Northwood or Wheaton.

Blair offers 5 academies: Entrepreneurship and Business Management; Human Service Professions; International Studies and Law; Media Literacy, and Science, Math and Technology, which complement its two magnet programs -- the Communication Arts Program (CAP), and the Science, Mathematics, Computer Science Magnet. These academies provide students real world connections while preparing them for postsecondary opportunities.
